Members of the parish community are an essential part of the RCIA journey in supporting the candidates as they seek to follow Christ.
Looking to get involved in and serve your parish community? Consider being a sponsor to an RCIA candidate. Not sure you are the right fit? Here are some qualifications for a sponsor:
- Practicing Catholic, 16 years of age or older
- strong prayer life (attends Mass weekly, Adoration, etc.)
- displays the virtue of friendship (a good listener)
- wants to share their faith with someone on their own faith journey
A sponsor is not a catechist and does not need to know everything about church teaching. The primary job of a sponsor is to be a spiritual friend.
Take time to pray if this is your calling to serve the parish and accompany those embarking on their faith journey.
